Mortgage Grapevine

Political: How can the mortgage grapevine improve?

Rule #1 in business is to ask the customer what THEY want. Never assume you think you know as a magazine what is going to draw visitors to your forum.

If you don't want a forum, just tell the mortgage community you are shutting it down. Rule #2 is clear and open communication with your customer.

I never really liked the political button. It came to be because no one wanted to discuss the mortgage industry when the business went vanilla.

I never really liked loan scenarios. Secret (RIP) always said to ask your boss. Now there are loan guideline questions that could be asked which would make for some interesting discussions.

So here we are in 2013. There are many topics of disussion we could have on things like regulation, loan guidelines, new loan programs, and new players in the industry.

Anyways, if you want to make this place professional, we could use real names, tie it to LinkedIn, set up a google + hangout, whatever you want to do.

But why not ask the community what they want and for suggestions?

We are all busy working, but it is a fun place to hang out once in awhile. just sayin..... A nickel to the save the grapevine hat fund.

Serious hat on.

First TVOR, Source Media has to care, or at least pay attention. It has to be pretty obvious how the place has gone downhill since Grrl left.

A moderator is obviously needed as is someone with some website skills. You have to admit that this place is pretty sloppy. I'm not a developer but even I can figure out that broken links is a problem.

Personally I pretty much agree with your assessment. Were I Andras boss (assuming he's got responsibility) I would have his ass. Either shut the place or clean it up. Potato and tomato posts would be nuked in seconds.

Here's a thought: If source media can't/won't provide moderation, how about turning it over to us! Vet and appoint a few moderators. SM knows who we are but we remain anonymous otherwise as does the average poster. All Andras has to do is assign user names and PWs (and fix busted links.

I think this could and should be a valuable source to discuss the incredible issues facing us as an industry. Just needs a little discipline. (ex: Thorlaw seldom posts here anymore and he NEVER posts stuff we don't need to know!!)

Your job TVOR, should you chose to accept it, is to contact Andras and propose a solution.

Otherwise this place goes away. I think it is salvageable provided SM cares.

BTW, Just in case i wasn't clear: Were I Source Media, I'd do something. As it is now, this place is a corporate embarrassment. It has the potential to be a huge corporate asset (and ad revenue generator).

Well its in the subject line...get rid of all the political posts or make a separate forum for it. My guess is many quit coming here due to all the politics.
by sfranny April 23, 2013 1:49 PM

At the very least set up twitter and let us tweet under our user names if you want to kill the forum. I sent an email a couple weeks ago and never heard back Buyside. I figured by now things would be fixed. I poked my head in for the first time in two weeks. Just share the plan with us.

Honestly---there aint enough industry left to make it worth this forum. The hit count has to be terrible. I notice its flabbergastingly long page load time seems to be because each time you go back to a page or link, it reloads all ads again. These appear to be not 'on server' ads but direct links to the servers of the advertisers. I could be wrong about this. This must give big hit counts directly to the advertisers. I dont know if they are able to distinguish between unique, or new hits and just plain hits. As I read the posts and make a few, Im creating MANY page hits but Im still only the one person. Watch your firewall when coming into a page---the long load times are the ads.

The Vine has gone to hell? Actually it ALWAYS had hell in it its just that there were so many good posts that the hell stuff would go downline. And, it was very amusing to many people in the industry.

Was it 'better' because of Grrl? I think not. I believe she contributed to the mess, creating controversy for hit counts or letting others like Iggy and Calif Guy break TOS all the time while doing nothing. Some say she was Iggy. Im betting she was several names here. At any rate, she was a backstabber. I hope she lives with it.

That said, when I first came back in here this past year, I tried to post topical info and help threads. I only see about 20 names or less posting, and the Vine used to have more posts in a DAY than it does in two weeks now.

The fact that its turned into a POLITICAL forum burns my butt up. Never liked it. Same old political posters for years turned it upside down. Ive played with the Vine simply because one can---messing it up weeks ago with html code was a partial accident. I changed from a helpful poster to an extreme antagonist to protest Grrls inaction regarding the infamous Calif Guys constant torment and attacks. Around the time they kicked me off FOR PROTESTING RACIAL JOKES, I was told who Calif is and posted his first name to prove it. By all rights I should dedicate a website to him and post all his trash on it for all to see his character. But thats water under the bridge.

I would like to see this as an informal but professional info dissemination site where folks could have clean fun while helping each other. I left the industry in 09 but still tried to give you mtg brkrs advice on how to deal with relitters, how to give em service, and also mtg industry news that isnt mainline for you but comes through all my previous contacts. No one responded and again, total posts are so low that it didnt seem to me to be worth doing. At least it seems not on anyones radar.

Frankly, I believe your industry as you know it to be near death. Maybe this could be the place where Wells Fartgo and Bunk of America employees hang out? Id have to stop talking about their inept supervisors, cheating training staff and antiquated systems, I guess.

There are others who were treated unfairly here. I suspect some of those are the ones posting the really bad threads and disrupting the place.

Fair enough Marv. We now know what's wrong. I don't disagree.

Question still on the table is "how to fix it so it is a valuable resource." Can't do that without SM.

I guess i could create a site......

Try reading the stupid fucking loan requests and responses!!!
You wonder why POLITICS has a higher posting ratio?
REALLY?
Your version of upside down is based on what? The social aspect is gone?
What are you providing?
HTML disasters?
Yeah, that's a better solution than bashing Obama
Are you all still mourning the bubble you once lived in?

let's just move this along to the inevitable, shall we...

Make it a political site, with paid links to porn on the side, and really generate some pay-per-click revenue

we'll use the money to gift first-time home buyers with the FHA 3.5% down payment

registered dems have blue font, teabaggers get red font, and all posts that go "BIG" must be settled with an on-line robot-combat league fight.

My robot's name gets to be "Dr. Bro-Bot" I choose the Ironman paint configuration and my bro-bot will be "handled" by a bikini-clad barrista from Olympia who votes democrat, but she has no idea why, and gets paid for her services with free concert tickets to heavy metal shows at the Tacoma Dome. She is the epitome of blue-collar...barbed-wire tats and all....and she has to have 6 Tacoma Dome beers before she even starts to feel buzzed! I know I know...pretty much covers all women in tacoma, but mine can mix a chocolate ice mocha double espresso chi-punch twist of lime sugar free upside down.

Yes I need all the sooner wiped off. That was so 10 minutes ago sooner. Besides, explain the old threads relevance to this thread and subject.
