Political: a post from thinkprogress

This is majority of the thinking here.

'lets try something monumental for a right winger, look at basic facts. When Clinton left office, he left a 2 trillion surplus and the economy was great. When Bush left office 8 years later, there was a 10 trillion deficit, the banks and auto industry needed bailing out, people were losing houses and jobs and the US was in 2 major wars. This is the mess that Obama inherited. Obama couldn't just say I am not going to bail out the banks, I am not going to continue to pay the bills for the war. The country was left in such bad shape by Bush, the country needed a stimulus boost. So a vast majority of the 6 trillion Obama racked up in 4 years was as a result of issues Bush caused. If you do your math, Bush blew through 12 trillion in 8 years, average 6 trillion for each 4 year term, same as Obama, but no Republican batted an eyebrow. Why?!?!'

Have at it!!

Surplus on a Federal not National Debt and a looming Dot Com bubble
Bush "SPENT" way too much and coupled with his "temporary" tax cut didn't do well with his budget gimmicks
Obama is spending the Maximum amount Bush did in his last year and Liberals want to say his spending isn't increasing. That's because we are at the CEILING!!!
Clinton lowered spending by 4% and solved entitlement issues as a LEADER should
What we have today is what I'd have at home if I gave the kids the check book and said "RUN THE SHOW"

We have a completely dysfunctional mess

So what I'm reading is Bush spent like a Liberal....

And Obama kills in war like a Conservative, no?

So aren't we basically in Bush's 4th Term?

The reality is that there is a limit to how much debt the US economy can service. Our options are very limited at this point. Arguing about how we got here doesn't change that.

The great liberal myth that Clinton had a budget surplus.

Can any liberal show me where the total national debt either remained the same or went down? That's what would happend if there was in reality a surplus.

The last time the national debt went down from year to year was in 1948.

Think Progress, much like other far left and far right sites, oversimplifies complex problems to fit their basic narrative. It's easy, convenient, lazy and incorrect reporting - Moveon, Breitbart, etc. are all guilty of it. I'd call it B.S. journalism, but that would be an insult to journalists.

This is typical of ThinkProgress posts. Full of liberal mythology, and woefully lacking in historical accuracy. A simple look at a graph or chart of the federal debt (as Yati found) eviscerates the central point (myth) of the post. The left may find comfort in sharing these myths amongst themselves, but there is not much of a connection with reality.

why should we care at this point?

point is,obama is president and he campaigned twice now on jobs and still has no plan for job growth.

you libs,tf,most of all,said "romney,show me
your plans",yet go dumb about odummers' plans.

if jobs aren't created,we're broke and very
soon,numb nuts.

That sure looks like a plan, don't it?

Cisco, you are assuming that this, when in fact it is congress that is to blame for either balancing the budget or not.
Had you been paying attention you would have known that Clinton did not want to balance the budget and they even shut down the government fighting over it. Of course he was more than willing to take credit.
Also keep in mind that we had a booming computer based economy at that time. Of course all of that business went to China, after China bribed the Clinton admin.
The only reason the media talked about Lewinksy was to take the spot light off of the China scandal.
If we have a bad economy now it is because Clinton sold our jobs to the Chinese.
